Platinum Cat Productions is excited to announce that the first private screening of their independent feature film ‘Surviving in da Hood’ was a huge success. The event took place on Tuesday 20th August at the Leander Community Centre in London. The venue played host to rising stars such as the likes of Mr Midas and Dean Marsh; alongside VIP guests Paul Canoville- the first black professional footballer to be signed to Chelsea FC and Melissa Bell – former member of 80’s R&B group Soul II Soul.

The film, which was produced and directed by Shanice Lindsay and co-written alongside Errol Tucker, is an honest reflection of the challenges that numerous individuals face whilst growing up in London.

Shanice Lindsay has dedicated the last fifteen years to volunteering at Starlight Music Academy a charity organisation that gives disadvantaged youths the space to flourish and excel despite difficult backgrounds. ‘Surviving in the Hood’ a feature length movie that showcases the creative talent of undiscovered performers is a great testament to the focus and drive of young people today. This is in contrast to the messages surrounding the very same groups portrayed in some media as unproductive.

Shanice states, “Not only does the narrative aim to inspire, but the production of the film itself highlights the wealth of talent within our communities and is creating an outlet for it to flourish.”  She says the biggest challenge in making ‘Surviving in da Hood’ was finances, hence why they are preparing to launch a fund raising campaign via Indegogo, an online fund raising platform for worthy causes.

The private screening confirmed our beliefs that ‘Surviving in da Hood’ is a honest, funny and real portrayal of young people’s lives. The screening helped to gain the support from Melissa Bell who enjoyed the experience and describe it as “compelling, relevant and positive”. She is excited to offer future support for their upcoming events and is happy to spread the word about ‘Surviving in da Hood’.

Platinum Cat Productions would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended last night's screening and a special thank you to Melissa Bell and Paul Canoville.
