South London Film Launches Indiegogo
Campaign
Shanice Lindsay
Making
use of the Internet for online fund raising campaigns is still a relatively new
concept but is definitely growing thanks to sites dedicated to on-line fund
raising ideas and others such as Indiegogo and Crowd Cube.
Yesterday,
following in the footsteps of the online trend, independent British film
company, Platinum Cat Productions, producer of the movie ‘Surviving in da Hood’
, launched a fund raising campaign via Indiegogo with the aim of raising
finance to hold a film premier for the movie and a launch event
showcasing local South London talent and to bring their film to a wider
audience.
Platinum
Cat Productions headed by female director and screenwriter Shanice Lindsay
states on their Indigogo page that its primary aim in producing Surviving in da
Hood was to provide a platform through film for undiscovered London talent to
shine and is appealing to the public to help them with their fundraising
campaign efforts.
Shanice
says that 'Within many families in our communities there are talented
actors, musicians, models, etc just waiting to be discovered but not likely to
make it via the mainstream media. Independent UK filmmakers are out there
creating an alternative route for local talented individuals to get the
exposure and success they deserve.'
Also,
bubbling below the surface is a growing ground swell of talented filmmakers and
many others, all working hard behind the scenes to bring more diversity to the
UK cinema and TV.
Shanice
adds 'There is definitely a growing audience for TV shows and films
that offer more diversity such as Top Boy, AdultHood, 12 years a Slave, The
Butler etc but there is still a lot of work to be done to finance the making of
such productions.
Action needs to be taken fast to reverse the unfortunate trend that many
talented British actors and film directors are having to leave the UK for
America or Africa to get the recognition they deserve such as Steve McQueen and
Chiwtel Ejiofor both of whom have been nominated for Oscar awards in
2014.'
Shanice
says finally 'it’s time for us all in the UK to start embracing
films that offer diversity even if to start with the route is via the
independents.'
